John Henry McCABE
John Henry's death certificate doesn't list a Date of Birth. It does however list how old he was, Days-Months-Years. It states he was 59 years, 7 months, and 15 days old. Using the Age Calculator on the rootsweb web site he was born Monday, 17 March 1851. John Henry McCABE married Catherine A. BOYLAN in 1872 (or 1871). (Catherine BOYLAN was born in Ireland.) John Henry McCABE became a US citizen as certified by this document dated 1 Oct 1873 from The Mayor's Court for the City of Scranton, PA John is mentioned in the McCabe family bible on the deaths page: John Henry McCabe, died Nov. 1, 1910 and is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Avoca PA on Nov. 4, 1910, and is found in the 1910 Census This citizenship document is further evidence of John and Catherine's emigration from Ireland between 1871 and 1873. Their son James was born in 10 Sep 1871 in Ireland and Bridget was born 18 Aug 1873. A July 26, 1899, a Wednesday, article in the Scranton Republican, concerning activities in Avoca mentions John McCabe's father being one Bernard McCabe who died in Pittston, PA the Sunday previous, which would be dated 23 Jul 1899. Here is an image of the page. The text reads: "John McCabe of North Spring street was summoned to Pittston on Monday on account of the death of his father Bernard McCabe, who died at that place on Sunday night." Regarding John and Catherine's date of marriage, the 1900 US Census states they had been at the time (7 Jun 1900) married for 29 years, or since 1871 depending on the time of year. The 1910 census say they had been married for 38 years, or since 1872. So Catherine would have been 16 or 17 years of age. See the McCabe census forms on the Sources page. The parents of John Henry were Bernard McCabe and Bridget McLaughlin. This information is from John Henry's death certificate. Bernard was born about 1826 in Ireland. Bridget's birth and death are not known yet.
The census of 1910 says they have been married for 38 years.
The following information comes from the Find A Grave website: Burial location determined by funeral notice that said he was interred at St. Mary's Cemetery. This particular St. Mary's determined to be the likely location due to his death certificate specifying burial in Avoca, and the confirmation that Rev. Michael F. Crane was pastor at the St. Mary's church in Avoca. Middle name Henry from a family bible that indicates he was 'father'. The bible only had his death date not his birth date. Both John and his wife were said to have been born March 17 by their children on their death certificates - it's possible the informant forgot which parent March 17th belonged to. He was 59y, 7m, 15d old according to his death cert, which gives the 17 Mar 1851 date tentatively given here. The 1900 census says he was born April 1853.
