bullet  General Notes:

John and Catherine McCabe emigrated to the United States between 1871 and 1873, since James was born in Ireland in 1871 and Bridget was born in Pennsylvania in 1873. John received a Citizenship document from the Scranton, PA Mayor's Office on October 1, 1873.

Regarding John and Catherine's date of marriage, the 1900 US Census states they had been at the time (7 Jun 1900) married for 29 years, or since 1871 depending on the time of year. The 1910 census say they had been married for 38 years, or since 1872. So Catherine would have been 16 or 17 years of age. See the McCabe census forms on the Sources page.

John's death certificate states his parents were Bernard McCabe and Bridget McLaughhma (the writter of the certificate seems to have spelled her sir name this way!?) Both were born in Ireland.

John & Catherine's children's marriages: [ from the McCabe family Bible ]
James married Nellie McGlynn in September 1897
Bernard married Anna Leary, 22 Feb 1905. The Montana Marriage Cert/License lists Anna Leary's parents as Peter Leary and Katherine Murphy. Bernard was 28 years old and Anna, born in Michigan, was 20 years of age. Here is a copy of a birth certificate November 29, 1908) of a child born to Bernard and Anna while residing in Butte Montana. The certificate indicates this is that second child born, but lacks a Given Name, seemingly a name had not been decided at that moment.
Bridget Mathilda "Tillie" married Henry Kluzing, February 1905
Mary married Charles Burbeck January 1906
Sarah married Frank Bataglia June 1910
Catherine married William N. Lynn 18 June 1913
Josephine married William Kaufman June 1919
Regina "Jean" M. married William B. Stanley 10 Aug 1922
John married Elizabeth Kelly January 1927. The Scranton News reported John's death on 10 Apr 1950 in this notice.
Loretta "Lola" married Glen Paul Moore 1 Sep 1927. The 1940 census shows Lola and Glen Moore living at 18733 Kress Avenue, Detroit, MI with their 2 children, Paul, age 9 and Terry, age 4.
Lola also married Roland J. Vandenburg 6 Sep 1958

Death Notes:

The following information comes from the Find A Grave website:

Burial here based on her obituary. It is supported by her death certificate that indicates a burial in Avoca PA.

A note regarding her birth date - the 1900 census says she was born Feb 1858. Her death certificate says 17 Mar 1859 - her husband's death cert indicated he was born Mar 17 1851, so it's possible the children got confused which parent was born March 17th. Regardless of the exact day, 1855 is a year better supported by early census records.

The obituary was published 11 Apr 1930 in The Evening News (Wilkes-Barre, PA)

"Mrs. Catherine M'Cabe Dies at Detroit Home

The funeral will be held probably on Monday from the home of a niece, Mrs. Jesse Mardman, 452 West Eighth street, Wyoming. Burial to be at St. Mary's Cemetery at Avoca."

The newspaper article, dated November 2, 1910, reads: John McCabe, of Spring Street, Avoca, one of the best known residents of that section, died last evening about 6:30 o'clock at the family home.
