Sarah GIBBONS
Here is the 1860 US Census record of Pittston Township, which lies nead Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and lists the family of James Broylan and wife and children Bridget (age 6), Catherine (age 55), James (age 3), and Peter (age 1). James' wife is listed as Mary, though other records (like her death certificate and a newspaper clipping reporting her death) indicate her name is Sarah. So either this census record is not a match for our James and Sarah, or Sarah used an alternate name of Mary, which I am leaning toward. I find no other census record for James Boylan to corroberate a wife named Sarah or Mary. See below for links to Sarah's obituary and death certificate. Sarah Boylan's US Census record of 1880 shows her living with her children in Duryea, Marcy Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. She is 45 years old. Her children are Patrick (age 17), Michael (13), Sarah (10), and Bridget (2 or 3); all born in Pennsylvania per the census. Sarah Boylan's US Census record of 1900 shows her living with her daughter, Ellen Dominick and husband and their family in Duryea, Marcy Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Her age is given as 62 years. Sarah Boylan's US Census record of 1910 shows her living with her youngest daughter, Sarah and husband and their family in Forty Fort Borough, near Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. She is 75 years old. Sarah Boylan's obituary was printed by The Times Leader of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in their Monday, Feb 17, 1913 edition, page 18. The obituary states "Mrs. Sarah Boylan passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs Dominick Holleran of River street, Forty Fort, on Saturday about 11 o'clock." The full text of the obituary is below. Sarah married James BOYLAN. (James BOYLAN was born in 1820 in Dunshaughlin, Meath, Ireland and died on 9 Jan 1875 in Pittston, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.) On Sarah Gibbons Boylan's Death Certificate of 15 Feb 1913, her parents are listed: Ulick Gibbons (father) and Bridget Purcell (mother). The information comes from Sarah and James Boylan's son Peter, of Avoca, PA. Sarah Gibbons Boylan obituary mentioning having 2 daughters (as in the census) and sons Peter (listed on the cencus) and Patrick (possibly not yet born for the census of 1860).
