General Notes:
A memory: Father's Day about 1975/76, Jim and Gene's house in Gary, a couple blocks from the shore of Lake Michigan, Mary was 13 or 14, they had bought Uncle Jim a Hobie Cat for Father's Day, and Jim took me, Tom and Mary out on Lake Michigan where the Hobie Cat capsized in the wind and waves. We were a few hundred yards from shore and yelling for help for about a half hour before someone came out in a boat and rescued us, and towed the cat to shore.
Burial Notes:
Suffered from congestive heart failure and renal failure, died in the Intensive Care Unit of Otsego Memorial Hospital, just before 7 PM, March 22, 2012. Step -daughter Mary and her husband was with him. Cremated 3/22/12, buried in the plot of his deceased wife Gene, Calvary Cemetery, Portage, IN
Obit reads: James Joseph Lynn, 81 of Waters, MI, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 with family at his side. James attended seminary school and served as a priest, taught religious education and then changed careers to become a social worker, retiring from the Gary welfare department. James thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife. He was an avid skier, loved camping, sailing, canoeing, deer and bird watching. His love for the winter snow and the beauty of Michigan took him back to where he grew up after his wife's passing. James was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Lelek-Gundy) Lynn. He is survived by his children: Mary (Tom) Cahillane and Tom (Judy) Gundy; grandchildren: Stephanie and Andrew Taylor and Carly and Lucinda Gundy; sister, Audrey Schneider; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Chesterton, IN.
