At one point worked for the railroad in Pennsylvania. Owned a pocket watch made by the Illinois Watch company, the face of which reads "Santa Fe Special." I was given this watch by my mother, William's granddaughter, when I turned 21 years of age. (John Schneider)
The 1940 Federal Census of Kingston Borough, Luzerne County shows William and Margaret living at 144 Main St. Kingston Borough, Luzernre County, PA - William and Margaret Lynn age 73 and 75 respectively, son Edward, 39, and with them are living Grandchildren Jane and Joseph Gallagher, ages 16 and 12. Notice that the Census Agent spelled Lynn phonetically as "Linn".
1900 Census of Luzerne County of Pennsylvania states William is 33 years old, his wife Margaret is 32 years old, and his occupation is brakeman. So the Census taker erred in writing his birth year as 1877 (1900-33=1867) and his wife Margaret as born in 1878 (1900-32=1868 birth year). Although, interestingly, the 1870 Census states William's age on the day the family was interviewed is 4 years, making William's birth year 1865 or 66! They are living at 522 Luzerne Ave., West Pittson, PA.
The 1920 Federal census of Kingston Borough, Luzerne County shows his occupation as a Switchman for the railsoad while they lived at 144 Main St., Kingston, PA. His obituary (see link below) states he was employed for 53 years with the DL&W Railroad (Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad), retiring in 1935.
The marriage license of William and Maggie declare his date of birth was 15 April 1865.
