back to Geneology of Louis or Audrey Schneider
In 1950 Louis John and Audrey Kathryn Lynn Schneider knew they needed to move from his parent's house at 1923 Glynn Court, Detroit, Michigan. At the time they occupyed, along with their two children, Lynn and Jim, what had been the the 3rd floor servant's quarters. They found a house under construction in the Village of Inkster, MI. This new construction was located in the new Dearborn Hills Manor subdivision, selecting the lot at 1387 Colonial Drive, facing a large flood plain of the Lower Rouge River. In March of 1951 a mortgage was contracted for $8,956.39 for this two story w/ basement, 2 bedroom, one bath bungalow, measuring 746.46 SF (26.10' by 28.60'). Completed that year they moved in just in time to welcome, in May, 1952, their third of a total of eight children to fill this small home. To fit their burgeoning family Lou eventually built a dining room and soon after a dormer which added a full bath and 2 more bedrooms. They would stay in this house until all kids had moved out and Lou retired, moving in November 1988 to the Colonial Acres Co-op, South Lyon, 21.54 miles away to the north-east as the crow flies. Below are some memories of those early years in Inkster, from 1951 to 1980. The dates on some of these pictures are a close approximation..
