According to the Death Certificate, on file at the Yonkers City Hall,
filled out by Julia Tischbein Affeld, states August was a retired
harness maker. August was living at 305 W. 28th Street, Manhattan,
NY, at the age of 80 when on 13 December 1945 he was struck by a truck
and fractured his hip. He was conveyed to St. Vincents Hospital (NYC)
and treated. He was subsequently sent to Sunny Rest Sanatorium in
Yonkers, where he died 1 month and 11 days later. Julia further
states that August had a predeceased wife named Barbara? (the
questionmark is hers). Edna centers saw a picture of his family when
he came to visit during World War II. She believes he was a ship's
cook and that his wife was unhappy and returned to Germany. He is
buried in the Tischbein family plot in Detroit Holy Cross cemetery.
Art Gelish heard he worked as a cook in a New York City automat.
