Marriage Notes:
Notes of Explanation
1) A similar biographical record of Joseph Schneider also appears in the 75th anniversary issue of the Wilmette Life, published on September 18th, 1947. It is available to you from the Wilmette Library and/or Historical Society.
2) A copy of this particular biographical record has been passed down through the relations over the years. It was retyped by Mame Schneider, wife of William J., back in 1935.
3) The first paragraph indicates that Joseph was the son of Anton and Gertrude, who were born in 1799. Due to the French invasion of the Rhineland there is a gap between 1798 and 1812 in the church records. As a consequence, neither of their birth/baptismal records have been located. There is however a civil record of their marriage recorded on 6/30/1826, which states that Anton was born on 2/23/1799, and Gertrude on 10/10/1798.
4) The 133 acres of land referred to in the first paragraph were actually split between townships. 80 acres were in section #31 of New Trier Township, while the other 53 acres were in section #9 of Niles Township (1861 real estate map by S. H. Burns and J. J. Van Vechten, Chicago Historical).
5. Please note the spelling of the last name for William & Anna Maria Fackelde, referred to in the first paragraph. The records from St. Mary's Cemetery in Muscatine, show their name to end with a "y" -- Fackeldy.
6) The two story brick house referred to in the second paragraph was constructed around 1874 at 3127 Old Glenview Road. Only the front half of this house is original, as a large addition to the rear was added at a later date. Ownership of this house passed from Joseph & Kathrina Schneider, to his son Joseph A. & Anna Schneider, and to Joseph & Margaret Schoenbeck (the daughter of Joseph A.). The current owner is not related to the family.
7) The third paragraph makes reference to Joseph and Kathrina as having twelve children. It further lists the names of ten children living at that time. The biographical record printed in the Wilmette Life for the 75th anniversary lists an eleventh child by the name of Katherina, and indicates that a twelfth child died at birth. A check of the baptismal records of St. Joseph Church verify that she was born on April 15th, 1880. Her name also appears in the 1880 federal census, but no further records have been found.
8) The third paragraph gives the birth date of Adam (Edward A.) as January 11th, 1889. The baptismal record for him from St. Joseph Church indicates that he was baptized on January 12th, and born on January 10th, 1889.
