Dear Mr. Affeld:

	We have been directed by The Adjutant General of the Army
to present to you the Bronze Star which has been awarded you.

	Plans have been made to present this award at Room 859
Federal Building, Detroit, Michigan, on 31 July 1946, at 2:15 P. M.
In order to make proper arrangements for this ceremony, it is re-
quested that you be at the place designated by 2:00 P. M.

	In the event it is impossible or inconvenient for you to be
present at this ceremony, we shall be glad to mail the award to you
at your request. If you prefer we shall have an officer present the
award to you at your home at a time convenient to you.

	In order to make the necessary arrangements for the presenta-
tion, it is requested that you reply on or before Friday, 26 July 1946.
The inclosed envelope, which requires no postage, is for your con-
venience. Your friends and relatives may be present if you wish. You
may dress either in civilian clothes or uniform as you desire.

	We have also planned a public ceremony at the same place at
2:00 P. M. on the same day for a number of posthumous awards. You
are invited to witness this ceremony if you wish.
