Mysterious Force Sucks Air From Pit; Two Men Suffocated
EAST CHICAGO Ind (AP)
A mysterious force sucked air from a 12-foot valve pit at the Inland Steel Corp plant here Thursday and two men inside it suffocated.
Three fellow workers who tried to rescue the pair collapsed from lack of oxygen and were hospitalized. More than a dozen other workers were treated and released.
Killed were Kenneth Gundy 33 and David Kemper 18 both of Gary who were slumped at the bottom of the pit.

Kenneth married Genevieve (Jean) M. GUNDY. (Genevieve (Jean) M. GUNDY died on 22 Oct 1985 and was buried in Portage, IN.)
