Joannes Albert TISCHBEIN
They were married in 1864 and emigrated from Germany in 1887 to the Michigan and Trumbell area of Detroit, Michigan, now known as Corktown. At that time the neighborhood was mostly German; the Irish came later. They brought with them all 6 of their children. Shortly after arriving John purchased a storefront at 3419 Michigan Ave. His family lived upstairs and he ran his harness making business downstairs. This building is still standing at Michigan and 23rd Avenues. All 3 of his daughters were married at St. Boniface Catholic Church which is just one block west of Tiger Stadium (a ball park formerly called Briggs Stadium and was razed in 1999). This church is still standing (as of 1993) and is owned by Tom Monihan (sp), owner of Dominoes Pizza and former owner of the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
